PLUNJ Kaysville

The Regimen

These rituals are time-tested and are as simple as they are effective. That is why here at PLUNJ, staying true to the Nordic tradition, we have developed #theregimen. This regimen not only stays true to its Nordic roots, but we are sure that it will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to PLUNJ through whatever life might have in store for you next.

STEP 1

HOT

Drink 1-2 glasses or a bottle of water 30 minutes to an hour before you get into the sauna. Once inside, choose your seat. The top bench is hotter than the bottom bench. The host will pour water on the stones to create löyly (the Finnish word for steam that comes off the hot rocks.) After 8-15 minutes of sweating, move on to step 2.

STEP 2

COLD

Now, onto perhaps the most rewarding, yet challenging piece of the regimen: the PLUNJ. Before entering the plunge pool, please make sure to rinse with the bucket shower next to the plunges. Pick which plunge pool you would like to use, and submerse your body into the water. One is set for about 50°F, and the other is set for about 42°F. Once you have submersed yourself, feel free to stay in the plunge pool, practicing your breathing, for up to 5 minutes. You can challenge yourself, but listen to your body. When you’re ready, move on to step 3.

STEP 3

REST

Time to relax. Choose a chair, grab a towel, and rest for at least 3-5 minutes, allowing your body to regulate its own temperature. Take this opportunity to breath, rehydrate, and prepare for sweating again in the sauna.

STEP 4

REPEAT

Once complete, repeat steps 1-3 one or two more times.

General FAQs

PLUNJ is a Nordic style bathhouse where the main focus is contrast therapy. Our bathhouse is a small communal space for those who are striving to feel and perform their very best. Not to mention it is a fun place to hang out. Our bathhouse strives to straddle the line between utility and luxury. You will find that our space, while very well-appointed, is simple in its method as well as in its practice. When all is said and done, we have only one goal: to help you feel better than when you came in.

Our space features a dry sauna heated by an electric stove, allowing you to pour water on top to create steam. We also have a spacious cold plunge pool that accommodates up to four people, along with a rest station equipped with chairs and towels.

Most guests follow this rotation: start in the sauna for 10-15 minutes, rinse off with a warm bucket shower, spend 30 seconds to 5 minutes in the cold pool, and then rest for a few minutes before repeating the process one or two more times.

We provide two private bathrooms, each with a shower stocked with soap, shampoo, and conditioner. Lockers are available to store your personal items during your session.

Additionally, we offer complimentary tea and water for you to enjoy throughout your visit.

Don’t forget to bring your swimwear!

Contrast therapy is a type of treatment done through deliberate and safe exposure to extreme temperatures, such as switching back and forth between a sauna and a cold plunge. It provides many physical and mental health benefits.

Traditionally, bathhouses have been a center of the community. Our hope for PLUNJ is just that, a place to gather. PLUNJ is meant to be a social place. However, we encourage guests to please be mindful of others’ experiences, use indoor voices when talking, and keep conversations appropriate. Any and all unwanted advances will be dealt with immediately.

Sessions last 1 hour. During this time you may use the amenities as much as you please.

We encourage first-time guests to arrive 10-15 minutes early so you can change and get acquainted with the space before your session starts in order to take advantage of the full hour.

Since it is a small space, we also ask that you be mindful of the time you spend in the restrooms/changing rooms both at the beginning and end of your session to ensure everyone has the ability to use the facility.

The number of people per session varies by location, typically ranging from 6 to 8 individuals. For specific details, please consult your local PLUNJ facility.

Traditionally, bathhouses are clothing optional. However, PLUNJ is not and CLOTHING IS MANDATORY. Most guests wear swimwear or something they feel comfortable getting wet in. All swimwear should be appropriate for a public communal space.

PLUNJ is a tech-free space. Please silence all electronic devices upon entry of the bathhouse unless it is necessary (I.E. Medical professionals, first responders, etc..)

Age requirements vary by location, with most facilities enforcing a strict minimum age of 14 years. Children aged 14 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult who completes a consent waiver on their behalf. Please check with your local PLUNJ for precise regulations.

Our saunas typically operate between 175-190 degrees Fahrenheit with approximately 20% humidity. Cold plunges are typically maintained at temperatures ranging from 45-50 degrees Fahrenheit. These temperatures may be subject to local health department mandates, so we recommend contacting your local PLUNJ for specifics.

Listen to your body during cold plunges and exit the water if you experience shivering, increased heart rate, or difficulty breathing. Research suggests 30-90 seconds of immersion is adequate for health benefits, and we recommend limiting sessions to a maximum of 5 minutes.

The number one principle or practice to follow is listen to your body! Some of the body’s signs of overheating are tingling in the fingers, ears, and skin, and/or hyperventilating.

Research suggests that 10-15 minutes at a time in the sauna is optimal, and anything over 19 minutes per session may be too much. Although we can become more habituated and acclimatized to the heat over time, there is a threshold before too much stress is placed on our cardiovascular system or our proteins begin to sustain damage.

If you have cardiovascular disease, cardiac arrhythmia, excessively high or low blood pressure, fever, cancer, skin disorders, blood clots, varicose veins, or respiratory infections, the sauna may be more harmful than helpful for you.

If you have untreated myocardial hypertrophy, coronary artery disease and/or chest pain, untreated high blood pressure, other cardiovascular health problems or cardiac arrhythmia, it may be best to avoid cold water.

Please consult your doctor if you’re not sure whether you should use the sauna or cold plunges.

If you are pregnant, please consult your doctor before using the sauna and cold plunges.
